I’ve been having trouble with the heat in my Mokka Electric. The input and output pipes going to the heater core are warm, but not hot, and while there’s some heat in the car, it’s nowhere near what it should be. If the heater core were fully blocked, I’d expect no heat at all and a cold outlet pipe, so I’m starting to think the issue might be with the thermostat not opening and closing properly.

The garage I went to insists it’s a heater core problem without even checking under the bonnet, which doesn’t give me much confidence. Has anyone experienced a similar issue, or have any advice on whether it’s more likely the thermostat? Any tips would be much appreciated!

Try taking off the radiator cap while the engine is running. Look for air bubbles in the coolant. Don't drive the car while the cap is off.

In my opinion, I think it is a thermostat issue rather than a fully blocked heater core. You don't have zero heat, so yeah. And the fact the pipes get warm, I assume some flow is getting through.
I would recommend double-checking your coolant levels first. If that's fine, ask another garage to inspect the thermostat. A stuck thermostat (either open or closed) could explain why you are not getting the heat you should.
Good luck!

Sounds like your Mokka Electric is giving you a "warm" reception but not the cozy heat you’re after! If the heater core was fully blocked, you’d be left in the cold for sure. It’s concerning that the garage jumped to the heater core diagnosis without properly checking under the bonnet. I’d have a closer look at the thermostat, it could be the culprit. Hopefully, you get it sorted soon
