My 1.7L diesel Mokka has been having issues with its dual-mass flywheel. The clutch pedal would stick halfway down, and the engine would make a terrible noise when restarted. I replaced the worn-out flywheel with a new LUK one.

At first, the issue appeared to be resolved. However, after three months, the same issues resurfaced. I rechecked the crankshaft end float and discovered excessive movement on the replacement flywheel.

It's unlikely that two consecutive flywheels would be defective. I'm wondering if there's another underlying issue causing the premature wear. Any insights or suggestions would be appreciated.

I’d also check the engine and gearbox mounts. If they’re worn or misaligned, they could be causing extra vibration or movement that accelerates the flywheel wear. Misalignment can wreak havoc on the drivetrain components, so it’s worth ensuring everything is lined up properly.

I have dealt with this before, and the terrible noise on restart after stop-start is often tied to the battery or starter motor, not just the flywheel.

The start-stop system gets a little sensitive to battery health or a weak starter after a while.
